On 2/1/15, there was a Times op-ed by Teresa Jordan titled "Seizing A Moment of Mindfulness," in which she opens with a recognition of Benjamin Franklin on his "13 Virtues," (they are outlined in my December 2013 blog post) which provided the impetus for her desire to understand how integration of who we hope ourselves to be and our responses are formed. She highlights findings on how moral emotion and behavior are best fostered in "internal calm." Her book, The Year of Living Virtuously (Weekend Off): A Meditation on the Search for Meaning in an Ordinary Life may interest you...
Searching for meaning can attune us to some of the things we are most grateful for: After spending a few months living in the desert, I became more attuned to how the natural environment plays a critical role in my life. In January, I moved out of the desert and into a "tree house." Not literally, but kind of: I call my new place as such because it is quite small, but beautifully nestled in trees in a pretty area. I feel such joy in the lovely chirping of the birds and green views out of my windows, on my walks, and on my way to run errands. How grateful I am for this simple joy.
Whatever enlivens, heals, and brings joy to you, may you find, live, and express more of it today.
