The Battle of Algiers (1967)
Last night, the Laemmle in Pasadena showed one of the best films I've seen in a long while. The Battle of Algiers will engage you in deep thought (maybe civic participation and discussions with others) about historical and current issues impacting human life, geopolitics, ideas of peoplehood, the ugliness of war, and how/when/if rapprochement is possible between some of our most battle-torn regions/peoples. A must see! Please check out rogerebert.com for an excellent review with links to the original review and interview with Gillo Pontecorvo, who directed the film.
